Charter School Authorizer
We are delighted to announce that the Selma City School District has achieved the prestigious status of a Charter School Authorizer for the State of Alabama. This significant milestone was attained in May 2023, with the formal authorization granted by Dr. Eric Mackey, the Superintendent of Education for the Alabama State Board of Education.
As a Charter Authorizer, our primary goal is to extend educational opportunities to all school-aged children within the district, spanning across Dallas County and the broader region of south-central Alabama. We are committed to providing a high-quality, equitable, and safe education environment for students. Our mission within the Selma City School District revolves around creating secure and supportive teaching and learning settings, fostering collaboration and partnerships among parents and the community.
In our capacity as an authorizer, Selma City Schools will diligently oversee public charter schools approved by the local education agency in strict accordance with the requirements specified in Act 2015-3. Additionally, we are committed to upholding the core principles set forth by the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) and the Guidelines for Alabama Public Charter Schools.
We welcome proposals that can cater to both conversion schools and charter school opportunities. Selma City Schools is actively seeking innovative educational solutions to benefit our community.
The Request for Proposal (RFP) application period is open from November 1, 2023, to November 30, 2023.
