Return to Excellence: Phase III Reopening

In-Person Learning Begins March 31st

Earlier this month, the Selma City Schools board of education approved Team Selma’s Return to Excellence Phase III Reopening Plan. The amended recommendation is to begin a five-day school week starting this week, with virtual learning remaining an option. In-person learning will begin after Spring Break.  Monday and Tuesday, March 29th and 30th, will be virtual learning days for ALL scholars to give teachers an opportunity to share expectations.  In-person learning will begin on Wednesday, March 31st, and will continue through the end of the school year. The school district is strongly recommending that all scholars transition to in-person instruction. Scholars returning to in-person instruction will experience a variety of instructional and learning supports to meet their varied needs. For parents deciding to remain with virtual instruction, and whose scholar is not in good academic standing and/or is experiencing current problems with truancy, the school district is requesting that he/she returns to in-person instruction or return a completed Academic Waiver for Continuing Virtual Instruction to your school. There will not be a uniform requirement for in-person learning. Scholars will follow a dress code that has been shared by each school.

We know that staff and families alike may have concerns and we understand that we will need to continue to communicate our safety practices.  For example, we have desk shields, signage regarding social distancing, reminders to wash hands properly, plenty of cleaning supplies and numerous protocols that will be implemented.  Additionally, learning spaces and bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected on a routine schedule. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered to classrooms daily and grab and go meals will be provided for scholars who learn virtually. For scholars returning to face-to-face learning, temperatures will be checked daily.  All scholars, teachers, staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask or appropriate face covering.  These must be worn properly to cover the nose and mouth. We encourage everyone to visit our COVID-19 Dashboard, accessible from our homepage, for the most up-to-date information regarding cases across our district.
