Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members:
This week, Selma City Schools was notified that several members of our staff and community tested positive for COVID-19. Per SCS established protocol, everyone in close proximity of someone testing positive was notified and encouraged to be tested and begin quarantining. The school district followed the most up-to-date procedures. This includes the Alabama Department of Public Health “When to use COVID-19 Report Card” decision tree updated as of October 14, 2020 and CDC guidelines. The individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 will not return to work for at least 10 days. In addition, he/she must be free of fever for 24-hours, without taking any fever- reducing medication before returning to campus.
The health and safety of our employees and scholars remain our top priority. The following protocols are currently in place to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:
- Mandatory face coverings and temperature checks
- Sanitizing, disinfecting and deep-cleaning
- Covid-19 testing for athletes and staff
- Covid-19 Dashboard
Additionally, we are now partnering with UAB to help track and prevent the spread of COVID-19 by using their GuideSafe Healthcheck tool. Selma City Schools reports all cases to the ALSDE and the ADPH. Cases are detailed on the SCS COVID Dashboard now available on our website. We invite you to join our virtual Chat & Chew this Thursday at 4:30pm to hear more about our measures and updates to Fall/Winter Sports.
The school district will continue to communicate our efforts and will provide updates as they are available.
