The Selma City School district is offering various summer learning opportunities through the Excel in Summer Enriched Learning (xSEL) program to forward the learning of our scholars in grades K-12. All scholars are invited to take advantage of the structured learning activities provided by xSEL. Some scholars in grade 3 must attend xSEL if performing at Levels 1 and 2 on the ACAP Summative Assessment as required by the Alabama Literacy Act. Selma City Schools is also requesting that all scholars who received either Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention, throughout the school year, also attend the xSEL program. Multiple options for enrichment, remediation, promotion, and acceleration summer school will also be offered to scholars in grades 6-12. Selma High School and Saints Virtual Academy will offer credit-bearing courses for acceleration for incoming freshmen.
The xSEL program is free to all Selma City Schools scholars. Promotion Summer School is also FREE for currently enrolled scholars. For scholars outside of the school district, there will be a $100.00 fee per course. The procedures and policies outlined by Selma City Schools in the Student-Parent Resource Handbook, including the requirement for daily attendance, will be strictly enforced. It is expected that scholars will fully cooperate, participate, and follow the instructions of instructors.
Excel in Summer Enriched Learning begins Monday, June 6, 2022, and ends on Thursday, July 14, 2022, Monday–Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. daily. This year, xSEL will be offered at every school.
