Principal's Corner

Cicely N. Curtis, NBCT

Ms. Burton

I am Cicely Curtis, born and raised in the historic Selma, Alabama. The responsibility to serve has always motivated me to affect positive change in areas that concern people, but most importantly our precious children.

Upon completion of an advanced diploma from Selma High School, I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Concordia College of Selma graduating Magma Cum Laude. Shortly after graduation, I begin to serve Selma City School families in many capacities. My teaching career began as a fourth grade teacher at Edgewood Elementary School where in my seven years of tenure I became a National Board Certified Teacher. After transferring to Clark Elementary School to teach fourth grade, the next year I assumed the role of Instructional Coach. This pathway inspired me to pursue my Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership. In May of 2014, I completed my graduate studies at Alabama State University with a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership.

I was selected to serve as Assistant Principal of R. B. Hudson in August 2014. One year later, I was promoted to serve as Principal of School of Discovery where I have served for the past four years. My work presents clear evidence of my ability to successfully lead, instruct, and manage. I pride myself in demonstrating this through my passion for teaching, learning, and helping others. It is my desire to utilize my experiences to bring fresh and innovative ideas to R. B. Hudson STEAM Academy. I will ensure that our scholars are loved, exposed to limitless opportunities, and educated.

I am elated to return back to R.B. Hudson to serve as Instructional Leader for the 2019-2020 Academic School Year! We are STEAMing4Excellence!!!!
