Welcome to School of Discovery Preparatory Academy where our motto is “Soaring Beyond Expectations”.
I am Felicia G. Tinker, and I serve as principal of School of Discovery. My goal is to help students become lifelong learners that are college and/or career ready after high school. I want to provide students with high quality instruction so they can thrive in a positive culture where caring, compassion, and learning is evident.
I have been an educator for over 19 years. I am a proud graduate of Selma High School. I began my teaching career at Meadowview Elementary School after earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia University in Selma, Alabama. I taught first grade for nine years. I earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. I continued by educational journey and earned an Educational Specialist Degree in School Counseling and Instructional Leadership Certification from the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. I was an elementary school counselor at Meadowview Elementary School and Cedar Park Elementary School for six years. I had the honor of serving as the high school counselor for two years and I served as the Instructional Coach for two years at Selma High School.
As the Instructional Coach at the high school, I had the opportunity to work with students with dual enrollment college courses and I served as the A+ College Ready coordinator. The curriculums provided rigor and critical thinking skills to help prepare students for college. I also worked with the career technical education department with students that wanted to pursue a trade after high school. I believe students should be provided tailored instruction that meets their educational needs so they can be successful in life. Parental involvement is essential for students to achieve academic success. Parents let’s work together so that your child can soar beyond our expectations.
I enjoy shopping, traveling, and spending time with my family. I am married to Roosevelt Tinker III, and I have two children, Jamia Elizabeth and Jessica Coleman.
I am excited about the GREATNESS that will take place with our students and teachers at School of Discovery Preparatory Academy.
