McKinley named SPK's Teacher of the Year

Kim Kimberly McKinley is a third-grade teacher at Sophia Phelena Kingston Elementary School, in the historic city of Selma, Alabama. Ms. McKinley began her career as a third-grade teacher for Kingston in 2013 and served as a third-grade teacher for three years. In that time, she also served as one of the cheerleading advisors and substituted for the after-school program. In 2016, Ms. McKinley went on to teach fifth-grade math, science, and social studies at Jackson-Steele Elementary in the Lowndes County Public School District. There she served as math chairperson for professional learning community (PLC).  Ms. McKinley returned to Kingston in 2017 where she began teaching a combination class of 4th and 5th graders. Ms. McKinley aims to reach her students in all areas of life. She believes that students have the ability to learn in different ways when they feel comfortable and confident within a safe and structured environment. Ms. McKinley takes these experiences as a learning opportunity to help shape and mold her as a teacher so that she can better serve all students.
