Selma City Schools Learning Option Commitment Form
Selma City Schools will begin Phase II of our Return to Excellence Plan second semester of school in January, if it is safe to do so. Additionally, targeted small-group, in-person instruction will be provided in the coming weeks. More information will be provided by each school.The district will continue to monitor weekly the number of reported, positive COVID-19 cases in the Selma-Dallas County areas as reported by public health officials. If safe to do so, Phase II will consist of offering in-person and virtual instruction options. Parents or guardians of scholars enrolled with Selma City Schools are asked to complete and return this Commitment Form no later than Wednesday, October 14, 2020 to indicate the preferred learning option. It is pertinent that the school district is notified whether your scholar will transition to in-person learning or continue with virtual instruction. The selected learning option requires a semester-long commitment before a scholar can change his/her learning option.
Taking into consideration all safety measures, in-person instruction will be phased-in by grade levels in January, if safe to do so. Each school’s rotation schedule for in-person instruction along with the attendance meeting days for scholars will be provided by December 1, 2020. To maximize social distance, an alternating schedule will be proposed. The school day hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and regular attendance will be monitored and is required.
When phase-in by grade levels begin, scholars will continue with remote learning until it is their turn to phase back in. The school uniform requirement has been waived for the 2020-2021 school year to ease the burden from the current pandemic.
Please note, scholar’s school and teacher may change if selecting virtual instruction as we establish a robust and full Virtual Learning Academy. There will be a virtual orientation planned to provide additional information. Scholars in grades 9-12 will have virtual instruction via ACCESS starting the second semester. The school day hours will vary, but regular attendance is required and will be monitored.

*Learning Option Commitment Forms should be completed and returned to your scholars school by October 14, 2020. If this form is not returned, by default, scholars will be placed in-person instruction. Grab and go lunch will continue to
be served during the phase-in by grade levels.
