Last week, the Alabama State Department of Education released the Alabama Accountability Act Failing Schools list. Selma High School and R.B. Hudson Middle School are on the failing schools list for 2017-2018 school year based on the state’s standardized assessment in reading and math.
Despite this citation, progress has been made at both schools. Team Selma welcomed a new principal at Selma High with the goal of shifting academic performance and promoting a positive school culture. Veteran Principal Concetta Burton is now taking the lead at R.B. Hudson with the goal of turning Hudson into a premier STEAM Academy.
“We are on the move, however change does not occur overnight. We are working hard and being intentional about improving academic excellence across the district. Team Selma will move past this label that does not adequately define our dedicated teachers and scholars.” says Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams. “Please visit www.selmacityschools.org to read our five-year strategic plan and learn more about the goals for our system.”
