Selma City Schools Announces the Closing of Byrd FCELC and Cedar Park Elementary

On January 15, 2019, Selma City Schools Board of Education voted to close Cedar Park and Byrd First Class Early Learning Center at the end of the 2018-2019 school year. Selma City Schools recently created and began implementing a five-year strategic plan which, in short, included a goal of right sizing our school district for equitable distribution of resources.

Students zoned for Cedar Park Elementary will transition to Edgewood Elementary beginning fall 2019. The Selma City Schools Transition Team is in the process of creating a transition plan for all teachers and staff at Byrd FCELC and Cedar Park Elementary. It is our goal to have this plan available soon.

Selma City Schools will continue to offer our premiere First Class Early Learning program. The location will be announced over the next few weeks.  Pre-K registration for the 2019-2020 school year has begun. We encourage families interested in our Pre-K program to begin registering today.

There will be a page on our website that will serve as the hub of information about the school closing process. More detailed information will be added over the next few weeks, intended to keep parents, students, and the community informed. Selma City Schools understands the impact of closing schools and aims to diligently communicate the process to all parents, teachers, staff, and students. Please continue to visit our webpage for updates.
