Welcome to the Sophia P. Kingston Library, where we are protecting your right to read. My name is Ms. Dozier. I am the Media Specialist. We invite parents to join us in the library anytime as we prepare life long learners through reading.
The mission of the Sophia P. Kingston Elementary Library Media Center is to support curriculum taught in the classroom, by providing a collection of resources and information that will placate the educational needs and interest of students and staff. We want all learners to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats and media.
To instill in students a desire to be life-long readers and to have the ability to search for answers independently in the Media Center.
To acquire and maintain a balanced collection of media center resources, which represent a wide range of subjects, levels of difficulty and formats.
To provide learning experiences which encourage students to become proficient users of information and technology.
To support the Selma City School System's curriculum and the teachers' classroom programs by providing necessary materials and appropriate guidance and instruction to students.
Enrolled students may check out books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed once. Reference books, periodicals, and non-book materials will not be checked out to students. Teachers may check out materials for two weeks or longer if necessary. Materials may be reserved by teachers with a written request.
Students with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books until the overdue book is either returned or brought into the library to be renewed. Overdue notices will be prepared and placed in each homeroom teacher's mailbox for distribution to students.
Lost books must be reported to the Media Specialist immediately. If the book cannot be found, the student must pay for the book. Students will also be responsible for payment of damaged materials.
Reading 24/7 with myON
The myON reader program is available for ALL Selma City Schools' students for the 2018-2019 school year. Capstone Digital, the parent publishing company of myON, is providing the eBook digital reading program to Selma City Schools' students with over 7,000 titles. Students can read eBooks from any location that has Internet connection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students access the books online at
on any web-enabled device and have the capability to download books to read offline using the myON free mobile app. Students can immediately take a myON test. Accelerated Reader tests that are linked to myON books should be taken the next school day. Please contact your child's teacher or Ms. Dozier for the student log-in information.
