Meet the Librarian

Ms. Krystal J. Dozier

I am a Selma native.  I matriculated through Edgewood Elementary School, then West Middle School, now R. B. Hudson STEAM Academy and Selma High School.  I graduated from Concordia College Alabama in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.  I taught first grade for six years at Cedar Park Elementary School from 2008 - 2014.

I was inspired as a child by my elementary librarian, Mrs. Westbrook to be a lifelong reader.   Therefore, after spending a number of years as classroom teacher, I was lead to aspire to contribute to the school community as a whole.  In 2014, I graduated from the University of West Alabama with a Master of Science in Library Media Education.  I am  currently entering into my sixth year as a Library Media Specialist.

I have succesfully written numerous grant proposals to International Paper Foundation, Dollar General, Wal-Mart and Donors Choose.  I received a total of over $18,000 to fund a butterfly garden, desktop computers, new books for the library, parent night resources, take home book bags and makerspace materials.  In  2018 and 2019, under my guidance, Kingston Elementary School was named a Renaissance National Honor Roll School.  This designation has not been received by our district in over ten years.  My passion for Cancer Research has led me to raise over $3,500 from her school’s Relay for Life teams supporting the American Cancer Society.

I have served on various committees with the schools in which I have worked as well as the district including the Bully Prevention Committee, Student Resource Handbook Committee, Teaching and Learning Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, the school's Leadership Team and Positive Behavior Intervention Support Team.  I have also previously served as the Selma  City Schools' Lead Librarian.   In which, I have successfully planned a district-wide Reading Rally and a Literacy Festival and coordinated monthly professional development sessions for the librarians.  I have chaired and/or co-chaired the Girls Club mentoring groups at my respective schools for over five years.

I am the Selma City Schools 2018-2019 Elementary Teacher of the Year.  I am a Library Media Specialist that does MORE than books.
