Rita L. Carmichael is a native of Monroeville, AL. She attended Monroe County Public Schools and graduated from Monroe County High School. She enjoys her 3 sons, 5 wonderful grandbabies and spending time with family.
Rita L. Carmichael is entering into her eighth year of teaching fifth grade at Meadowview Elementary School in Selma, Alabama. In the beginning of her professional career, Ms. Carmichael was a math tutor and GED teacher. She taught reading and mathematics to students ages 16-62 at the St. Edmund Learning Center in Selma, Alabama for 7 years. She has served as a substitute teacher for schools in Selma, Alabama and Clayton County Schools in Georgia. Her next opportunity to serve came as a Pre-Kindergarten assistant for 4 years at Edgewood Elementary School. While assisting, she decided to go back to college to continue her education in Elementary Education at Concordia College-Selma. There, she received her Bachelor’s Degree.
Ms. Carmichael has been a fifth grade teacher at Meadowview Elementary School since August 2011. At Meadowview, Ms. Carmichael serves as lead teacher and a mentor teacher to new teachers. She also engages students in various STEM activities at the school and at a local community college. Additionally, Ms. Carmichael willingly serves on various school and district committees. It is her desire to continue to inspire and motivate our future leaders of tomorrow.
