Shelbra McDonald is a prekindergarten teacher in Selma, Alabama. She served as an auxiliary teacher for 4 years in the Selma City School System and during that time she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education. Shelbra is a first-generation college graduate. She has been serving as a pre-k teacher at Byrd First Class Early Learning Center for the last 4 years and during this time she obtained a Master’s degree. For her committed services and care for young learners, she was featured in the Selma Times Journal as the Spotlight Teacher of the week in 2017 and again in 2018. She was also recognized and received the 2018 Rising Star Award from Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education. In addition, for her commitment to the education of children, innovation and creativity in the classroom, she received the Class Act Award from WSFA/ TV in Montgomery.
When she is not busy preparing innovative learning experiences for her students, she enjoys early morning time reading and studying her Bible, road trips with her family and creating meal ideas for her family to try. But most of all, she is serious about encouraging her daughters, extended family members and her young students and parents to think positive, do what is right, and strive for excellence.
